Off we go! March 18, 2009

Today is the day!

I am so excited that David and I are about to embark on our first INTL. trip together!

I got a great nights sleep last night and it may be the last for a week, but oh well!  We will be keeping you all up to date with pictures and posts here in blog land!  If you are up at 12 tonight, would you mind saying a little prayer as we fly over the pond?  Thanks.

Cheerio chaps!  We will post tomorrow morning.

Steppin’ Out!

Some things I am amazed at February 26, 2009

1- that running gets harder and less enjoyable as I go along.  I thought it would be the opposite.

2-Kashi TLC Dark Chocolate and Coconut bars are good for you.  Seriously it is like a decadent dessert.  NO joke.

3-That Kristin Stewart beat out Kate Winslet in a Best Actress Poll.  Don’t even get me started.  Go to www.myparkmag.co.uk

4-That I will be in London in less than a month

5-That no matter how many times a day I clean, at the end of the day, my house is a mess.  Can you say 4 kids and shedding bermuda grass?

6-That Loreal Eye Defense really has helped my dark circles, in less than 24 hours.

7-That I want to try to style Eli’s hair like Edward Cullen.  I think it would work.

8-That my husband puts up with me.  I get the occasional “you are ridiculous” which really means a slew of explicatives.

9-That I have the greatest family in the world, and they don’t just live in my house.

10-That I do the same things EVERYDAY, and nothing gets done!

I better get to steppin’

A little more February 10, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — creichley @ 3:24 pm

A little clarification on the last post…no we are not actually “camping”, come on people!  We are staying at a very nice hotel (thank you priceline) in London, and they may saunter out to Cambridge, Dover, or even a 2 day trip to Scotland. Land of the Taggarts!

As to the comment posted by Rev. Norris.  My pride has nothing to do with my decisions…it is pure knowlege and street smarts.  They just aren’t worth it!  England has so much more to offer and the experience is just the same on You Tube!  Am I right people?!  I appreciate you wanting for me what you want for yourself, but no.  Graciously appreciated though!

I don’t think we will catch any shows in the West End either, unless there is someone that I really can’t miss.  I guess I just want to be a Londoner for a bit!  Not do the touristy things, but go to Anthony Bourdain’s London, if you know what I mean.  Get into it, under the surface.  It will be enjoyable, regardless.  Architecture alone is enough.

So we are battling the illness in our house.  Which one, I don’t know.  I know that Millie sounds exactly as she did when she was in the hospital, but acts much happier!  The kids are going strong, just with that dry cough.  So they are outside, powering up on Vitamin D and I am about to join them!

Oh yeah, the training is great, up to week 3.  Ran 4 miles on Sat, and 3.5 today.  This Saturday is 5, Kim and are doing it, we’re really doing it. (ala David Reichley!)

Steppin it up!

So long… February 7, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — creichley @ 10:11 am

It has been too long since my last.  I am here and now making an effort to try and do much better at blogging.   I have been really run ragged, but I don’t know what I have been doing.  Just spent!

Enought whining.  Training is going…well, it’s going.  I am at the end of week two, have my last 4 mile run and now it starts to build.  Each day is encouragement and I see why people do a program to train, it really does help.  I am excited and actually look forward to crossing off the runs on my calendar.  So I guess it is going rather well.

The other news is I AM HEADED TO THE UK!  David and I are taking a trip in March to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary in May (cost is the reason for the early trip).  I am SO thrilled.  This is not my first trip to London-town, but it is for David.  I am so very excited for him to see the “old world” and what it has to offer.  We are going for 7 days and are camping out the first 3 nights in Central London and then we are vagabonds.  We may go here, or there, or just stay put in a little B&B in Notting Hill.  Who knows.  Any suggestions are welcome.

I would like to get tickets to a soccer (football) game.  I don’t think I can afford Chelsea or Manchester United, but there are 6 teams in London alone, so maybe one of the lesser ones.  If not, Chelsea has a game and we may just hit the local pub to watch.  We are also NOT going to see the following:

-Windsor Castle or tower

-Changing of the Guard

-Crown Jewels

Etc. Etc.

St. Paul’s is a must and we are going to Mass there, so it will be free.  I love Westminster Abby, but I don’t know if David will care for it.  There are some free Walking tours on iTunes, and those are awesome.

I would like to get my hair done over there, but again, we will see on cost!

Needless to say we are thrilled.  David’s parents are coming up to stay with the children, so they will have a blast too.

Steppin’ over the pond!

First Day down January 26, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — creichley @ 11:10 am

Today was my Official first day on my training calendar.  I get to cross off a 2 mile run.  I knew I had to get in there early or else my energy would be shot.  I know that I mentioned that I HATE running, but even more so, I HATE HATE running on a treadmill.  I think tomorrow I am going to head outside.  It is a 3 miler too, so that should be…well..let’s just hope I make it.

So I ran the first mile and felt great, but then the hum of the treadmill, the boring words of the podcast…is it hot in here…where’s my water…my hair is falling down…my PANTS ARE SLIDING…any reason to stop.  So, I slowed it down for a bit, then just stopped short.  I went and rode the bike for a bit, but didn’t actually get to 2 miles.  I’m not beating myself up over it, but tomorrow, I am not quiting early.  Even if I walk a bit more…not quitting early.

Steppin’ up

A little change in plans January 20, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — creichley @ 7:26 pm

So as I stated earlier, I am training for my first 1/2 marathon. The Rhodes and the Reichleys have decided to do this together. We were going to the race in Atlanta at the end of March. Well, since none of us have started training and that is like 9 weeks away…we are obviously not doing that one.
We are instead going for the Charlotte Race Fest at the end of April! Norris tackled this a few years back, so it will be fun to revisit the site. I think we may even make a weekend of it at the South Park Mall with a little shopping. Oh, and the IKEA up there opens on Feb 18. Can’t wait!
So training officially start Monday, although, I have started running early. Did I mention I HATE running?
Better get to Steppin’

Drum Roll Please… January 6, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — creichley @ 9:25 am

…I’m not pregnant! Geesh people! David took care of that you know! I appreciate the vote of confidence that I could handle a fifth child, but seriously. Wow, I never thought it would have taken that route.

Anyway, what is all the suspense and dramatic rambling about? Hate to dissapoint, but just my yearly setting of goals and my direction for the year. If you want to stop reading now, I understand. Traitor!

Each year for I don’t know how long, David and I have chosen a word that we want to activate. Mine have been words like, Reconnect and last years Shalom (thus the Peace Be With You salutations). This year my word is…Step!

I think it fits. I am a visionary, a dreamer. I like to come up with ideas and things I want to do…I rarely do them. I doubt myself, find reasons not to or just realize I dreamt a little too big for the moment.
NO more. Now it is time to Step.

For the next few weeks I will be sharing the definitions for the word Step and how that will apply to me and 2009. The first is seen under my title above.
1. short movement with foot: a short movement made
raising one foot and lowering it ahead of the other
foot.
I don’t need to move along super fast or wonderfully graceful, I just need to take a Step and do it!

Here are the goals that I have set for 2009, some are specific, and some are general at this point until clarity comes.

Step IN: and truly get to know and love my children better than myself.
Step OUT:Take a Risk
Step UP: Actually train and complete a Half Marathon (looks like March 29 in Atlanta for this one)
Step Down:From wanting to make a name for myself in any area
Step OFF:Let go of control in situations and let other people make decisions for themselves
Step TOO:Make a difference in a life both inside and outside of my family.

There you have it! I would love to know your goals for 2009.
Let’s get to Steppin’!

Courtney
